Philly Cycling This Week

This week is like really really exciting for dorks like me. We have a chance to ride pro bikes, the swap is coming, and you can check out some art by bike! If you ever have any Philly Cycling news or events, please shoot me an email so I can list it here.

On Friday, Cadence is offering a chance to ride what the Cervelo test team rides on Friday May 7th. Stop by for a chance of a lifetime. The éRide truck will be carrying a fleet of 2010 R3-SL, S3, RS, and P3 in a full size run, so you are sure to get your chance to take a ride on these amazing machines. You will have a chance to ride these bikes with the Sram Red components and Zipp wheels that the pros are using, but you will just be riding at about 10% of their speed. It’s OK. No one is watching.

Even though it is really not in Philly, the Valley Prefered Cycling Center is throwing the annual spring swap meet. In the days before craigslist and eBay, this was the place to be to get all the great deals. Even though some of the stuff has gone away, it does not reflect in attendance or the super deals people walk away with. I am pretty sure that every swap breaks an attendance record.

Even though I have been going the last few years not looking for much, I always end up with something super sweet. I am pretty sure I will be camping out this year on the night before because I will be setting up for my first booth. Myself and some others will be riding 100 miles to nowhere at the swap, so come by and drop a buck or two into the bucket to benefit the LiveStrong foundation.

You can have a chance to check out all of the great murals that Philadelphia has. Every visitor I have ever brought around the city always talks about the great murals that seem to be everywhere. This is due to the fantastic work of the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program. This week they are offering a guided bicycle tour of some of the murals. I would imagine if you were to see all of them, you would need to pack a tent, because they cover our whole city. My favorite is the Jackie Robinson mural in North Philly. Whats yours?

From the mural arts program….A tour of Philadelphia’s renowned murals by bike allows an outstanding opportunity for participants to see and photograph murals up close! A guide with up to 10 participants weave through Brewerytown, Fairmount, Francisville, and Spring Garden viewing nearly 20 murals and revealing the meaning and stories behind the murals. A can’t miss Philadelphia experience! Admission $17.
